Do you ever start thinking about your future and immediately go into panic mode?
Or maybe you think about your future and you feel cool, calm, and collected.
For those of you like me who instantly start to freak out when you think about what the future has in store, keep reading.
On some of these days, the anxiety gets the best of me. I know I’m not alone. Other days I’m a warrior and I don’t let it get to me for one single second. The problem? I never know when the good days will be or when the bad days will unleash their fury.
So what do you do about it? You don’t let it take control. No. Matter. What.
I know what you’re thinking… that’s a lot easier said than done.And you’re right. Taking control won’t happen over night. It may not be permanent and it will falter. Not every day can be controlled. Not every negative thought can be pushed away. Not every flaw can be repaired immediately.
What can be done every time you feel yourself losing control?
1.) Deep breathing. Allow yourself a couple of minutes to really focus on your breathing. Is it deep? Is it shallow? Does it happen effortlessly or with intention? Take 10 d e e p breaths and focus your thoughts only on those breaths. Doing this will help you to rebalance your mind and thoughts.
2.) Utilize a planner. My planner is my life. Some of my co-workers call it “old school” or “traditional.” Call it what you want, it saves my butt daily. I have trouble remembering when and where I’m supposed to be when my weeks start to get super busy and that’s just not acceptable in the professional world. So I write every appointment down. 3.) Read a good book. Every now and then the hustle and bustle of every day life can start to take over our lives. We can get so caught up in the ins and outs of our busy days and we forget to stop and take a moment to relax. Reading a good book can help to refocus your thoughts on something else for a while. Maybe you like to read nonfiction and get emotionally invested in each character. Maybe you prefer learning about other people through biographies and historical context. Or maybe, like me, you prefer books that allow you to grow and develop as an individual. Find the awesome book above here!
4.) Eat healthy and exercise. If there’s anything in our lives that we can have complete control over, it’s our nutrition and fitness. Only we can make ourselves get up and go to the gym or hit play on that home workout. Only we get to decide what foods we allow to enter our bodies. Only we get to determine how “healthy and fit” we will be. Invest in yourself. Your health should be a priority. You want to live the longest life possible? Develop a healthy lifestyle.
5.) Write in your journal. If you don’t have one, get one. Use your journal daily. It’s yours and yours only. You don’t have to let anyone else read it and you don’t have to share. Make this journal your confidant. Write any and everything that comes to mind here. Use it to set goals, self-reflect, count your blessings, and more.
